Glimpses of What Was
Zen China 1988
We are gifted in this life
With Glimpses that are sometimes more
Than we, at the time, have the ability to comprehend
And when we tried to capture it
We were left with little clues
Pieces of some puzzle
That we later were left with to use
Reflections on the mirror of time
Are not always what they may seem
Sometimes things are closer in that mirror
And sometimes it is just the dream we see
For there are memories that come
With all those images with what was then
And what it was that might have been
And we can see the seed planted
So very long ago
It was impossible to know back then
How those seeds would grow
All this wonder we are given
And what that wonder brings
Is up to us to sort out
And interpret into what we need
There is the grace of love
And time seems like a sigh
What was then, what is now
As a mother to a child
Just glimpses from a lifetime
That we can look back in time
It is just an offering
Given back as the gift we seek and find.
